Bro. Brandan Verm | Joshua the High Priest — Zechariah 3

We tend to love justice when it applies to someone else. When it comes to our own guilt, however, what we desperately need is mercy. In this message, Bro. Brandan Verm walks through the powerful picture found in Zechariah 3, where Joshua the high priest stands before God in filthy garments while Satan stands beside him as his accuser. Joshua cannot defend himself, clean himself, or change his own condition. But then God steps in. The filthy garments are removed, Joshua is clothed in clean garments, and his purpose is restored. This is a beautiful picture of the Gospel.

We all stand guilty before a holy God, and the enemy would love to take the truth about our past and turn it into a lie about our identity. Condemnation tells us to hide; conviction calls us to come home. We don't have to clean ourselves up before coming to Jesus. God is the One who does the cleaning. Through Jesus Christ, our sin has been paid for. He doesn't simply make the dirty look a little better. He makes us new, clothes us in righteousness, restores us, and gives us purpose for His Kingdom.

Maybe your family has a history of addiction, brokenness, divorce, anger, or generations of the same destructive patterns. Your family's history does not have to become your identity. Through Christ, there can come a moment when you say:

“This dies with me.”

Maybe you're already following Jesus, but the enemy keeps dragging you back to who you used to be. Bro. Brandan gives an important reminder: "It's okay to remember where God brought you from. Don't rehearse what He already delivered you from."

Your story doesn't end with your sin. Your story doesn't even end when grace finds you.

That's where the new story begins.

`Jesus restores.

`Jesus makes clean.

`Jesus repurposes.

`Jesus calls us home.

No matter what you've done or where you've been, His grace is greater. As Bro. Brandan reminds us in this message, you cannot out-sin the grace Jesus offers you.
